About Me

I am in the process of changing careers to software development from chemical engineering and recently finished getting a second degree in computer science. Having just finished school in this new field, I have been exposed to a handful of different languages and technologies (e.g. C, C++, Python, Java, Angular, Node.js), though I cannot claim to be an expert at any of them. I started down this path because I value continual learning and because programming, computers, and technology in general are endlessly interesting to me.

Projects

My projects to date have all been done for school

Cryptocurrency Trading Bot - A group project for which I am responsible for the frontend website development and some of backend. I created a webapp using the Angular framework and a small server-side REST API to handle queries to MongoDB (Angular, Javascript, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Node.js)
Financial Literacy App - Designed architecture using a waterfall design method and implemented a basic instructional website with user authentication using an agile design method. (HTML, CSS, Javascript)
File Transfer Protocol - Used socket programming to implement an FTP-like file transfer protocol with client-side written in python and the server-side written in C. (C, Python)
Shopping List Android App - Created a mobile app designed for keeping a shopping list. It was a native Android app with a REST API backend on Google App Engine. The app used Firebase for authentication and supported multiple users with separate lists. (Java, Python)

Work Experiences

Senior Scientist

2007 - 2016
Unilever, Trumbull, CT

I was a senior scientist in the Applied Measurement Science group at Unilever's global skin R&D site in Trumbull, CT. My general role was to design and conduct tests in the physical science lab to support all areas of the business, from formulations at bench scale through manufacturing. I also supported claims. More specifically, I specialized in microscopy, rheology, and texture analysis. The work typically involved speaking with our "customers", that is whichever engineer or formulator was requesting work, designing test methods aimed at solving the problems presented, and presenting the results either in written form as a presentation.

I was also a member of the site safety committee and the site environmental response team (a.k.a. the spill team)
